This week I attended the St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce’s second Digital Dish of the year. Caryn Butler of Socially Smitten spoke about the importance of connecting with your customers through social media. She also emphasized the importance of having a strategy. This really hit home for me since that is part of our process here at Evolve Systems. While the points Caryn made were for businesses in general, I’m going to talk about how restaurant owners can put these tips to use to create a successful social media strategy!
Connecting with Your Customers
The three goals of social media for business should include the following
- Increase brand awareness
- Increase customer retention and loyalty
- Generate leads and sales
Depending on your business, not all of these may apply. But if you’re a restaurant owner all three should be important to you. Today, customers are using social media to learn more about your business. In a way, your Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram profiles serve as search engines for potential customers. One Minnesota-based restaurant that comes to mind that has great, effective social media is Punch Pizza. They follow the three goals I mentioned above — brand awareness, customer retention, and leads and sale.
Ingredients for a Successful Social Media Strategy
Having a social media strategy is extremely important! You could be missing out on opportunities, spending your time on the wrong social platform, or not using them to their full potential. Having a strategy will help you avoid these problems. Here a few pointers on what goes into a successful social media strategy:
- Define your target audience
- Determine the best platform to reach your target audience
- Use the correct messaging for your target audience
- Remember quality is greater than quantity. You don’t have to post every day to have a successful strategy
- Paid campaigns are important, organic results aren’t enough anymore.
If these concepts are confusing or you want help, this leads to my next point!
How Evolve Systems Can Help
We love working with professionals in the hospitality and restaurant industry. In fact, we recently completed a web refresh for the Rustic Inn Cafe in Two Harbors, MN. For more tips on how restaurants can improve their social media, check out a previous blog we posted on how to restaurants can infuse a “fun-factor” in their social media. A special thank you goes to the St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce for hosting another great event for digital marketing professionals!
