By now, hopefully, you’re aware of the importance photos in social media. Adding this visual aspect will increase the chances of users engaging exponentially. Today I am going to share my favorite photo editing tools I use on a daily basis in my role as a digital marketer. Note: all of the apps I recommend are free to use.
Every month, nearly 90 million users log onto Instagram. With an increasing number of social media users flocking to the ‘Gram, it’s important that your brand’s images are up to par. And this all starts with using the right photo editing tools!
The Basics: Which Photo Editing Apps are the Best?
I know there are built-in features on Instagram and even on Twitter, but to get the best editing results you have to go beyond these internal editing features. But if you’re new to mobile photo editing, this can be overwhelming. You log into the App Store and search for ‘photo editing tools’, and suddenly you’re swamped with hundreds of different options, so which is the best? I personally consider VSCO and Google’s Snapseed to be the cream of the crop when it comes to photo editing on my iPhone (they’re both available for Android too!) Side note: VSCO has a sharing and community aspect which appeals to a lot of users.
How to Avoid Double-Posting: Use a Collage App
It’s an unspoken rule of Instagram that you shouldn’t post multiple photos on the same day. Especially one right after another. This is a good way for you to lose followers. Most of the time people have #NoShame about double-posting if they’re at a cool event or traveling. I break this rule too from time to time! Sometimes you can’t help it. If you’re feeling indecisive, but don’t want to double-post, I recommend you use a collage app to consolidate photos!
Pic Stitch has been a long-time favorite in this category. It’s reliable and has a couple hundred layouts to choose from. It’s a great app I definitely recommend having in your arsenal. And last March, Instagram rolled out a competitor to Pic Stitch, aptly named Layout. Layout has its own unique features from Pic Stitch which is why I recommend it as a solid alternative.
Boost Engagement on Instagram
If you use Instagram for digital marketing purposes, I suggest downloading Repost. This app does exactly what it sounds like. It allows you to “repost” other Instagram user’s pictures while giving them the credit. It’s very easy to use and is a great way to showcase someone you’re following and boost engagement! It’s the equivalent of retweeting for Twitter and I consider it a must-have app.
Preparing Your Photo-Editing Toolbelt
It’s one thing to be using photos in your social media, and it’s another thing to take the time to edit your photos before you post. If these apps are new to you, I hope you go download the ones that suit your needs and enjoy editing and enhancing your photos for social media!
