We’re slipping into unconsciousness here…but we will fight it, because there is SEO and Social Media and business tips to discuss!
Lisa Barone brings us The Small Business Owner’s “Hurry Up and To-Do List!”. She works for both Outspoken Media as well as the Social Media Editor of SmallBizTrends. The title of “Social Media Editor” is fascinating because of how much it can entail and yet still be narrowly defined. Many jobs related to social and SEO are hard to categorize or even label, but Ms. Barone seems to have found a good one.
Search Engine Guide gazes into the crystal ball and talks about the future (Conan?): Will 2011 be the start of the Social Media bubble? . I really don’t know if social media will have a bubble or “a weeding”, as author Eric Brown mentions, but there will be at best a trimming. Most of social media today is unfocused and sporadic. This will change over time as businesses become more savvy and know which tools are best suited for them.
Brown does bring up a rather sizable problem with “Social Media/SEO gurus”, and that is the lack of results. Social media and SEO are not tangible products, and far too often there is little accountability as to what work is actually being done. Shamelessly, may I just say that Evolve Systems prides itself on working with our clients on our Website Maintenance Plans and Social Media Packages, providing time summaries as well as monthly reports detailing what work has been done and where the client currently stands from an Internet perspective.
I share Jennifer Van Iderstyne’s kneejerk dislike of these annoying linking questions: 5 Link Building Questions That Make Me Die A Little Inside. When someone asks why they aren’t the number one result on Google according to their extremely broad search terms, about the only thing you can do is repeat that they will never topple the big dogs and instead need to focus on honing their keywords and content down so that they can be found by more specific but still broad search terms. Googling “hot dog” will never get land you “canine cleaning services.”
