We here at Evolve Systems believe strongly in the progress of technology. As technology continues to improve, small businesses will be able to utilize new technologies in unforeseen ways, and repurpose old technologies for new and exciting and opportunities. The last few years have seen significant changes in technology and how businesses relate to their customers.
Here are some of our predictions for 2011.
Twitter Will Continue to Increase In Users
There are some reports out there that suggest that Twitter has reached a plateau, and that new users are not joining the social media giant. We’re not so sure. As the mobile smart phone market continues to grow with phones such as the iPhone and Android based phones, users will be discovering new applications that they didn’t see a use for before. Twitter will be at the forefront of this trend, and even more so as more businesses embrace Twitter as a marketing and PR channel for talking to customers.
Mobile Transactions Will Benefit More Businesses
Again, as smart phones gain market share, so too will businesses begin to develop applications for smart phones. The technology already exists for mobile credit card terminals, where each staff member takes turns with a mobile attachment to their cell phone, allowing them to swipe client’s credit cards securely and wirelessly. In a very real sense, the future is already here, but many don’t realize it just yet. This has the potential to change business transactions at all levels. There will also be a higher standard for web and mobile security because people will be doing more transactions from their phones.
Web 2.0 Will Continue to Change the Status Quo
One of the lessons Evolve Systems has had to learn in the last year is that the web is changing, and therefore the way information is presented on the web has to change as well. Many of us here at the company read through Letting Go of the Words by Janice Reddish, which is one of the best “non-technical” web design books we’ve seen. Many users leave web pages within the first 30 seconds if a page is too wordy or just doesn’t grab them. One of the ways Evolve Systems’ Website Maintenance Plan encourages our clients is to rethink how they present their information, “letting go of the words” and focusing on core strengths.
More Companies Will Use Cloud-Based Collaborative Tools
Open source software is expected to grow because of competition and ease of updates. For that reason, we’ll find many more Internet users using these free software tools. The benefits for small businesses will be readily apparent. This will also encourage larger software development corporations to step up their A game to compete with the new paradigm. Optimization will be a key buzz word in 2011, as all fields, not just websites or mobile platforms, will need to embrace the most recent changes and build toward their strengths.
Evolve Systems Personal Predictions
We foresee an increase in customers using mobile applications and transactions. Our Website Maintenance Plan will bring great benefits to more clients as they see a need to engage more in social media and embrace Web 2.0 standards. Our podcasting studio will remain in constant use as the word gets out. The base cost of e-commerce will continue to come down so more businesses will be able to sell their products online.
And we will continue our growth of partnerships with banking, video production, copy writers, and graphic designers.
Here’s to an entertaining and productive 2011!
