Below is a personal story of frustrations I’ve encountered with making a website. You aren’t the only one out there, but there are steps you can take to eliminate the stress–really!
When I started my first website I decided to try it the hard way. Using Dreamweaver (a website building tool) wasn’t necessarily easy, and making my website took a lot of time (ask anyone who has used Dreamweaver and they’ll tell you!). Learning HTML, CSS, and Flash made me stumble, make some mistakes, and learn how the back-end ‘wiring’ of the website worked. I didn’t even know what those terms meant when I first began making my website. The truth is, everyone wants a really cool website—how else could we make ourselves or our businesses stand out? How else would we get to be the top of Google? The problem is, many of us don’t have time to learn the back-end work and hiring a company to make or update our website from year-to-year can be expensive. Also, it’s hard to figure out what our customers are searching for when they are looking for us.
Have no fear, a CMS is here! Okay, so that might sound a little corny, but I discovered a Content Management System that can do everything you want it to. Content Management Systems allow users to create, update, import, and tweak information in real time without the hassle of learning IT programmer language. So maybe building your own website is not your ‘cup of tea’ and you would rather hire someone at an affordable rate—hiring a company to create a CMS site for you will save you time and money. It costs less because the work involved includes the instant addition of information, rather than creating it from the ground up. Then, after so long the company can refresh information, photos, social media and other aspects relating to your website with little cost because updates can be made quickly and don’t need to be programmed.
Many people in business have lost sight of how powerful website marketing can be. The image of your website says everything about who your company is and why your business is better than the others. Your website, therefore, should be important to you and should reflect what you need and want it to say.
Get people involved with your work. Make a blog, social media sites, and implement a news feed to your website with news on your company and industry. People want to know what you are doing to make a difference. People want to know how you can help them—what you can offer that others cannot. Be personal about your business and show customers that you care. Reply to their comments or concerns and engage in their interests.
Many companies always say their customers are their top priority, but never take the time to practice what they preach. By spending a few minutes on social media or telling a personal story on a company blog brings your customers closers. It lets them know you are a person too and that you understand their personal needs. Some companies are even willing to do this for you included in their service fees for creating your website.
