Have you recently planned an event or are still working on planning one? If so, how do you go about making those arrangements? As many of us have experienced, finding the time to create and market an event can be stressful. You need to decide a flexible date for attendees, where to hold the event, who to invite, and how you are going to send out the invites—should they be formal or should they be informal?
With several questions spinning through our heads, social media is one way to easily upload the information you want to get out there. In some cases, social media even keeps track of the dates for your guests so they don’t forget the event date. Author Stephanie Marcus of Mashable tells readers, “What we’re seeing is more integration of social media into their lives as a way to promote their services, plan and promote events, and bring the conversation full circle from the virtual world to real life.” Facebook, for instance, allows users to create events whether it’s an office party or a wedding with any details you wish to include. Through social media, event planning is becoming easier to manage and send out to a mass audience.
Another interesting way to engage your guests to attend your events is using FourSquare. When your guests arrive ask them to log in to the event via FourSquare and maybe consider creating a badge so they can win prizes for attending. Also, by having attendees log into the event, you can keep a guest list of who attended the event so you know who to invite next time. If you aren’t following your guests on twitter, try to find out if they are there and make sure to tweet that they attended the event. Tweeting your attendees will get them engaged to communicate with you, as well as allowing them to feel acknowledged.
Now, some of you may be thinking: Wow, all of these ideas sound really great for building my business and event planning, but I’m not necessarily social media savvy. Not a lot of people are social media savvy and they don’t have the time to set up social media. At Evolve Systems we can help you set up anything from Twitter to Facebook and teach you how to use each platform for success!
