One of the things people are most curious about when it comes to their website is, how many people are viewing my website? Is it actually receiving virtual foot traffic, or is my site sitting out there in the abyss of the internet? Well, there are an abundance of tools under the umbrella of what’s known as Google Search Console, or GSC. It used to be called Google Webmaster Tools, but essentially GSC is a collection of all of the Google maintenance tools for your website health related to search engines.
*Remember: Before you can implement GSC, you have to verify that you own your domain.
What are the Benefits of Google Search Console?
Google Search Console offers three main benefits to your web presence:
- Data and configuration control for your site (specifically a robot.txt file for search engine instructions to crawl your site and an XML sitemap to get your pages indexed within search engines)
- Search metrics (how your site pages showed up in search results and the possible click throughs to your web pages)
- Direct insight into how Google sees your website, as well as any troubleshooting they detect within your site.
How to Set It Up?
It is recommended first to set up and verify your Google Analytics account and then link it with your GSC. The interface is pretty intuitive and sends you emails to suggest enhanced set-up options. We wish you could get scheduled email reporting from GSC like you can from Google Analytics – hopefully in a future upgrade.
