First Friday of 2011! Lunch today was provided by Jon, programmer and chef extraordinaire! And now, with good food in us, we present to you some links.
Has #FollowFriday lost it’s appeal on Twitter? That’s the question asked by Jan Minihane on his website, where he offers perspective for you and your business. He offers three different options on how to keep the #FF tag going…or how to let it go completely.
We’ve noticed that many people tend to spam the #FollowFriday posts on Twitter. Occasionally we will mention someone in a #FF tag, usually a business we work with or have launched a website for. It’s a nice way of promoting one of our clients to our other clients and Twitter followers, as well as, of course, getting our own name and brand recognition out there. However, we tend to be sparing with our #FF posts, since much gets lost in the chatter; strategic tweeting, then.
Las Vegas hosted the annual CES convention this week. Our Twitter feed has been absolutely filled with posts about it; it really does feel like most of the Internet is at the event. Evolve Systems has been following with the announcements with great interest, as many of the technologies will directly impact our industry in the coming years.
For example, Engadget shows that the Android platform for smartphones has jumped ahead of iOS on the Apple iPhone. Now, couple that with the announcements of all the new smartphones, such as Samsung’s new dual core smartphones, and it’s obvious the mobile market is just going to continue to grow and skyrocket, especially whenever 4G coverage rolls out.
How does this effect Evolve Systems? A big part of our business is mobile credit card processing solutions. Cellphones and smartphones are probably more common now than a wallet in a person’s pocket. People are learning to trust their smartphones for more and more. Businesses can use this by offering mobile credit card payment solutions at restaurants, job sites, retail stores, sporting events, wherever! Evolve Systems is positioned to be the premier mobile credit card processing company for Minnesota, the Midwest, and eventually America.
Finally, Evolve Systems is now on Quora! We have spent the last week checking out this service after hearing the buzz about it on Twitter and other social media platforms. The best description we can come up for it is “Yahoo Answers for Business People but with Twitter elements”. If that sounds daunting, just imagine it as a repository of information where you can choose to follow those people you find give the best answers. In a way, it’s a wiki-helpdesk. We’ve enjoyed getting our feet wet, and anticipate using Quora more often.
Have a safe weekend everyone!
