It’s been another great week in the Evolve Systems offices! People have been coming in for trainings on our Content Management Systems and E-Commerce Shopping Cart platforms, we’ve been busy with numerous meetings and sales calls, and even had time to conduct some SEO and usability research for a few companies with our Website Maintenance Plan. Fridays are a great time for the office to get together, enjoy a meal, wrap up any loose ends from projects being worked on throughout the week, and make preparations to take the world by storm again on Monday!
So here are a few links and noteworthy pieces of information that can benefit both Evolve Systems and your business!
First up, an article from GigaOM – Why Winning Over Merchants Will Be Key to Mobile Payments.
…merchants have a perfectly good payment system right now with debit and credit cards. For them to jump on NFC, they need to have the ability to establish a closer relationship with their customers and be able to push out marketing offers and discounts to them. If it’s just a credit card replacement, what’s the big rush for merchants to make the investment in new point of sale readers?
Evolve Systems is heavily involved in the mobile payment and credit card processing industry. We offer these services to hundreds of clients throughout Minnesota and the Midwest. We are curious where NFC technologies and payment systems will go in the future. The biggest hurdle seems to be establishing the install base, because even if all phones sold right now, today, had NFC technology going forward, it still doesn’t change the fact that millions don’t have NFC technology. It appears that at all times we are less than two years away from complete NFC adoption. But, things could change…
E-Books! Do you read them? Have you ever written one? E-Books is one of those areas that Evolve Systems has dabbled in, whether it’s creating user guides for our content management systems or general knowledge based e-books centered around our industry. Get Elastic has an article up about three payment models for e-books. If you read e-books or are considering self-publishing one, we’d suggest taking a look.
Do you run a global e-commerce website? How is the SEO going for you? Get Elastic has a great interview about SEO and global e-commerce websites.
Linda: What are the top SEO concerns for global ecommerce websites?
Laura: There are a number of challenges facing global ecommerce sites, but 3 high-level issues that seem to be universal include communication, testing, and clear planning and reporting structures and processes.
You’re Not Too Old For the Internet. If you think you are, read this article. Even the oldest business needs to be involved in social media. “Social media isn’t a kid’s thing, it’s a business thing.”
(Off topic, this one comment stuck out to me:
I agree with many of your points, but I think there’s another generational factor that speaks to not only social media, but the web in general, that often goes ignored. Most people over 40 just don’t feel comfortable using social media because they’ve grown up doing everything with some kind of instructions. For instance, around the holidays, whenever someone gets something that requires assembly, my dad always grabs the instructions manual and reads it cover to cover, while my siblings and I just take out all of the pieces and figure it out. I think that indicates a major generational difference in the way that we interface with the world, and that translates to online activity.
Do you think that is the case? That there may be an actual generational difference in how we do things? One of the great things about working at Evolve Systems is that CEO and our President, Marnie Ochs-Raleigh and Don Raleigh, have always been pioneers in the field of web development and design. There was no instruction manual when they started, and they’ve built up Evolve Systems from nothing. But would that have been the case if the age of the company was increased by 20, 30, 40 years? Something to ponder.)
Have a great weekend everyone! Enjoy the sunshine, and see you on Monday!
